The Ontario Glass and Metal Association welcomed around 100 members and friends to Woodington Lake Golf Club in Tottenham, Ont., for its annual fall golf tournament on Sept. 14. The weather was cool and sunny with great vistas of the surrounding countryside from the hilltop course and many commented on the perfect condition of the track. A nice strip loin dinner followed the 18-hole scramble, after which everyone got prizes from a dozen generous sponsors.

The night included the award of the OGMA/AGMCA education bursary to Jason Szabo, a glazing apprentice at the Ontario Industrial and Finishing Skills Centre. His instructors, James Clifford and Mike Pentz, selected Szabo for the $1,000 award, citing his positive attitude, willingness to help other students and 93.81 grade average in the advanced class. The award will be especially welcome to Szabo as a career on the pro golf tour may not be in his future.

OGMA president, Steve Ringler, noted in his comments that four board members – Steve Gusterson, Frank Fulton, Brian Wiles and Mahendra Ojha – will be stepping down at the end of the year. The board will still be healthy with nine members remaining plus Lori Brooks doing administration, but Ringler is keen to see more directors get involved, especially younger leaders in the industry.
