Emerging technologies to take centre stage at IGMA conference

May 18, 2012 – The Insulating Glass Manufacturers Alliance Summer Technical Conference offers a program filled with top notch industry networking, a new round of document creation for the industry, a female Top Gun, and an Emerging Technology and Innovation Committee that promises to excite fans of next generation IG technology and its use in building innovations today.  The Conference is scheduled June 4 to 7 in historic Ottawa, the capital of Canada.

says Dave Cooper of Guardian Industries and president of IGMA. “Our new ETI Committee will be setting up task groups to work on
specific emerging technologies and innovations. With the current window
market being extremely competitive, it is even more imperative to stay
abreast of the standards and issues involved with them, especially with
new technologies. I encourage everyone to be a part of tomorrow’s
technology today and join our efforts by attending and getting involved
in the future of our industry."

"This event offers some of our best networking opportunities on top of
the fantastic technical work," says Margaret Webb, executive director of
IGMA.  "On Tuesday, June 5, attendees will work together on the Urban
Quest Scavenger Adventure in teams and armed with a clue package. The
reward at the end of the quest is a mystery restaurant located in
Ottawa’s historic downtown Market and a shared experience with others in
the industry."

The IGMA Summer
Technical Conference will feature extensive committee work by the
National Renewable Energy Laboratory Advanced Fenestration
Testing Task Group. The Task Group exists to assist NREL in developing a
standardized approach to the creation of testing methodologies for new
glazing technologies in fenestration products.  In addition to new
technologies, this task group will also look at existing test methods in
use by industry for possible enhancement or for the creation of more
expedient testing of new insulating glass products that do not require a
new standard.
 
“This task group will potentially have an enormous impact on the
industry as a whole,” said Margaret Webb, IGMA executive director. 
“Ultimately the methods created by this task group will benefit the
fenestration industries by creating a standardized, accepted method for
testing prior to bringing new technologies to market.  Our work at the
Summer Technical Conference will lay the foundation for these new test
methods.”
 
Industry members should plan to attend the Conference to be aware of the proposals for the
test methods, as well as the opportunity to provide feedback into them. 
“This task group puts IGMA ahead of the pack in terms of next
generation testing for existing and new technologies,” said Webb.
