IGMA introduces new Emerging Technology and Innovation Committee

Sept. 21, 2011 – The insulating glass industry has seen many new technologies enter the market to address the energy efficiency, daylighting and esthetic needs of the commercial and residential fenestration markets. The Insulating Glass Manufacturers Association expects this trend to expand and continue to grow. Therefore the board of directors has approved the creation of the Emerging Technology and Innovation Committee to develop guidelines, specifications and testing standards for the future technologies of the insulating glass industry.

Newly formed task groups will partner with key government organizations and industry to advance the understanding, guidelines, testing, certification and proper use of innovative insulating glass technology.  
 
The new committee was established at the August 2011 IGMA technical meetings held in Victoria, B.C. The ETI committee, chaired by Helen Sanders from Sage Electrochromics, and co-chaired by Guardian's Dave Cooper, president of IGMA. ETI will be the steering committee for IGMA’s new research projects. The following task groups will fall under the mandate of this committee:  Vacuum Insulating Glazing (VIG), Gas Permeability and MOCON Optech research projects, field correlation study on gas-filled units, NREL’s advanced IG testing lab and Life Cycle Assessment.
