WSIB campaign encourages safe work for young people
August 2, 2024 By WSIB Ontario
WSIB Ontario reminds young people to practice safety because workplace safety doesn’t take a summer vacation. Summer is here, and that means a lot of young people (aged 15-24) are taking on summer jobs or entering the workforce.
To grab their attention, our newest #PracticeSafeWork campaign is using funny ads with animal animations to remind young people about the importance of workplace safety and let them know we’re here to help.
“Every year, we do our best to remind young people that workplace injuries can happen to anyone, anywhere, anytime. Our videos are funny but deliver a serious message – unsafe work practices can get you injured or killed,” said Jeffery Lang, WSIB president and CEO.
In Ontario over the past ten years (2013-2023), 103 young people (aged 15-24) died because of work, 16 just last year alone.
And in 2023, more than 33,000 young people were injured at work, almost 13,000 of those injured seriously enough to lose time from work.
Our goal is to ensure young people don’t become one of these statistics. But if they do become hurt or sick because of work, the WSIB is here to provide wage replacement, pay medical bills and help them get safely back to work when the time’s right.
