Insulating Glass
I was born and raised here in Canada and there are many things about our country that I’m extremely proud of. But I must admit whenever I hear someone refer to the United States’ Declaration of Independence, part of me wishes that this document was in our history and not theirs. Namely the second paragraph, which states, “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights, that among these are life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.”
As our industry kicks in to gear for another construction season, it’s a good time to look at a few best practices and common failures. First, let’s start with some background before discussing a recent project example.

Nov. 11, 2014 - Effective immediately, Azon will no longer produce the warm-edge spacer product Warm-Light for insulating glass.
Fenzi North America has added Fenzi Poliver Polyurethane to its list of IG sealants.
The Erdman 400 Series spacer applicator introduces a new level of automation to the insulating glass industry.
Fenzi North America has added to its product base with the addition of Fenzi Hotver 2000, a one-part hot-melt butyl specially formulated to give insulating glass units the best mechanical properties to last longer in the field.
The Insulating Glass Manufacturers Alliance will be releasing a new document to assist the industry in providing the proper technical procedures for multiple-cavity insulating glass units.
PPG Industries offers a complete range of tinted, solar control and passive low-E coated glass products.
Finally, the validation is here. It was a long process, but rewarding.
In the early part of 2011 during an ASTM task group meeting, the chairman of the Glass Strength Committee asked that a small contingent put together background and history along with information on the use of the ASTM E 1300 Standard Practice for Determining Load Resistance of Glass in Buildings.

Insulating Glass units are unique in the realm of manufactured products
Feb. 23, 2010 – Edgetech I.G. has announced that it has entered into an agreement with Helsinki, Finland-based Sparklike, Ltd. to be the exclusive distributor for the Gasglass argon and krypton gas detector and Spyglass glass analyzer in the Americas, Europe and Australia. Prior to the invention of the Gasglass technology, manufacturers had to virtually destroy units to test gas fill levels.
