July 23, 2009 – A new product from Dow Automotive makes it easy to remove a major cause of bonding problems in replacement auto glass.

The new BETABRADE F1 surface contamination remover, a “wet scrub” in a bottle, lets autoglass technicians quickly remove the manufacturing and packaging residue, including silicone that often interferes with adhesive bonding.

“BETABRADE F1 goes on quickly and easily with an applicator bottle, so you can clean the bonding area thoroughly with a minimum of work and send your customers on their way with reliable windshield replacements,” says Dale Malcolm, Dow Automotive technical manager.

The new cleaner is visible so the technician can make sure it has been applied thoroughly, and it is also safe for the technician because there is no spraying or atomization.  The company says it is completely effective and does not leave marks in the frit surface.

Malcolm adds that the surface contamination is not always visible. “But even when you can’t see it, contamination can keep adhesives from bonding properly, and that could result in bonding problems,” he says.

Dow Automotive recommends using  the “wet scrub” process, removing contamination with BETACLEAN Glass Cleaner and a mild abrasive pad, whenever bonding to glass next to an encapsulation. Afterwards, the technician should spray all treated areas with BETACLEAN.

The new BETABRADE F1 is a quick and easy way to remove residue from manufacturing and packaging, including silicone, to help ensure a leak-free replacement. BETABRADE F1 comes in a 500-millilitre bottle with applicator nozzle.
