Pittsburgh Glass Works closes Hawkesbury
With the continued decline of North American automotive vehicle builds in 2009 and beyond, Pittsburgh Glass Works (PGW) continues to respond to the changes in the markets it serves.
May 11, 2009 – With the continued decline of North American automotive vehicle builds in 2009 and beyond, and the unprecedented and radical restructuring of the automotive industry, Pittsburgh Glass Works (PGW) continues to respond to the changes in the markets it serves. The company previously announced closure of two fabrication facilities and two satellite assembly facilities. The company has announced that it will also close its Hawkesbury, Ontario, Canada glass fabrication facility in the first quarter 2010.
"We regret that the decision to close our Hawkesbury fabrication facility adversely affects the lives of many of our trusted Associates and their families," said Jim Wiggins, President and CEO of Pittsburgh Glass Works. "We are responding to fundamental change in the global Automotive OEM business that requires suppliers to adjust production and capacity downward to match the significant demand reductions coming from our customers. We are convinced that the steps we are taking are necessary to insure the long-term viability of our business and to prepare the Company for the challenges immediately ahead."

In addition seven satellite parts assembly plants are located throughout North America and Europe, and two LYNX Services claims management call centers in Ft. Myers, Fla. and Paducah, Ky. Combined, the businesses employ approximately 3,700 people.
