Golf Great action at OGMA fall golf
The Ontario Glass and Metal Association fall golf tournament, held Sept. 19, was buzzing this year with news of a hole-in-one by Michael Arnott of Northern Facades. Arnott holed his tee shot on the 164-yard, par-three 12th at the Carrying Place Golf and Country Club in Kettleby, Ont. Some debate ensued as to whether this feat qualified him to win the Prelco-sponsored closest-to-the-pin prize, as his ball was technically not close to the pin but actually touching it. OGMA golf officials eventually ruled that Arnott should win. Your correspondent must have been in the bathroom when Arnott purchased the traditional round of drinks.

Ontario legislature votes down Fair and Open Tendering Act
The Ontario legislature voted down Bill 73, The Fair and Open Tendering Act, on Friday. The Act would have amended the Labour Relations Act to prevent municipalities and school boards from being bound by provincially negotiated contracts with construction unions. Whether you agree with the proposed bill or not, the debate in the legislature makes interesting reading for anyone in the construction sector in Ontario.

Sold-out crowd for London NAFS seminar
About 50 door pre-hangers and suppliers took in Fenestration Canada's seminar on NAFS-08 compliance in the Ontario Building Code at the Hilton in London, Ont., Sept. 12. The sold-out room was brought up to date on the new rules coming into effect Jan. 1 by Fenestration Canada technical consultant, Jeff Baker, J.F. Kogovsek of Maxam Marketing and a panel consisting of Haya Soghrati of Can-Best, Claudio Sacilotto of Intertek and Jennifer Wren-McDonald of Exova.
