Vitrum Glass Group hosts second “Glass Fabrication Meets Design” event

December 3, 2015  By Vitrum

Dec. 3, 2015 – On Wednesday, November 4, Vitrum Glass Group hosted its second biennial Glass Fabrication Meets Design at its head office and fabrication facility in Langley, B.C. This year’s sold out event was a huge success with a record attendance of over one hundred architects and spec writers with guests from Vancouver to San Francisco.

Architects, spec writers and interior designers were invited to attend an exclusive tour of Vitrum’s fabrication facility where they had the chance to see the products they specify being produced right in front of them. Tour highlights included: Insulating Glass, Tempering, Heat Soaking, Laminating, Custom Glass Fabrication, Silk-Screening and Spandrel Glass. To ensure a complete fenestration experience the tour continued with a visit to Apex Aluminum Extrusions, BC’s only aluminum extruder, where they had the chance to see aluminum being extruded into architectural products, followed by fabrication, anodizing and finishing.

Over ninety percent of Vitrum’s guests signed up for one of the two educational workshops that were hosted by Vitrum and held prior to the tour.  These two AIBC accredited workshops consisted of interactive presentations where architects had the opportunity to earn continuing education credits while learning more about the materials they specify and the architectural glass products available today.  With sixty attendees at an “Introduction to Architectural Glass” the room was full and not an empty seat was available. During the workshop attendees had the opportunity to view and handle dozens of glass samples while learning the basics of architectural glass. In the room next door attendees at the “Laminated Glass” workshop experienced live dramatic demos of breaking railing glass while learning about advancements in laminated glass. Both presentations were very well received by the architectural community and opened up discussion on the glass products being specified in today’s buildings.

The workshop and tour were concluded with a cocktail reception providing a networking opportunity and the ability discuss and share ideas on upcoming projects. Architects in attendance had the opportunity to connect with primary float glass manufacturers, PPG and Guardian, along with local glaziers while meeting the technical team at Vitrum to discuss upcoming projects and get assistance in specifying glass.
