Upgrades laminating line
The Prelco Group in Riviere-du-Loup, Quebec, has upgraded its laminating production line, implementing a new automatic glass positioning system and replacing the de-airing oven. The new positioning system will allow the alignment of different layers of laminated glass to a precision of 0.013 inches. The new de-airing oven will combine high precision nip rolls as well as infrared and convection heating modules which adapts to different types of low-E glass.

The improved system maintains a high quality pre-lamination process prior to the final fabrication stage of placing the glass in the autoclave. The company says the addition of the new automatic positioning system will increase production by more than 50 percent and will give the Prelco Group the ability to offer glass products that meet rigorous fabrication tolerances for applications that are becoming more specialized. This includes primary glass product fabrication for tempered glass, laminated glass, high performance insulated units, spandrel glass, bent glass and silk screened glass. The laminated glass represents a large portion of the company’s production.
