Silliker Glass expands for demanding market

Jan. 28, 2011 – Silliker Glass has expanded their company to meet growing demands for their commercial storefront services, thanks to investments made by the federal and provincial governments.

Jan. 28, 2011 – Silliker Glass has expanded their company to meet growing demands for their commercial storefront services, thanks to investments made by the federal and provincial governments.

“Our government continues to support projects which help companies create jobs and make key investments in our region,” said the Honourable Gail Shea, Minister of Fisheries and Oceans. “The economy is our Government’s top priority. We understand that investing in companies, such as Silliker Glass, is vital to growing and strengthening the Atlantic Canadian economy.”

The Government of Canada has invested $422,000 to help Silliker Glass purchase new equipment. With the addition of this equipment, Silliker Glass will be able to meet the growing demand, throughout Canada, for their commercial storefront services.

“By supporting diversification and technological improvements to Silliker Glass, the Government of Prince Edward Island is not just helping a s uccessful Island business to grow, but we are laying the groundwork for continued job growth and economic development in rural Prince Edward Island,” said the Honourable Allan Campbell, Minister of Innovation and Advanced Learning.

The Province of Prince Edward Island, through the Department of Innovation and Advanced Learning’s Century Fund, has invested $500,000 to Silliker Glass so they were able to expand their company from their Summerside location to a larger facility in Borden-Carleton. Borden-Carleton Holdings has also invested an additional $200,000 for the expansion into the new facility.

“As the rural economic development agency of Central PEI, Central Development Corporation (CDC) is pleased to welcome Silliker Glass to Borden-Carleton,” said Jeannette Arsenault, Chair CDC. “This expansion is great news, not only for the Borden-Carleton area, but for the Island in general.”

“The support we have received from both levels of government has helped us grow and become stronger as a company,” said Ron Silliker, Owner of Silliker Glass. “Through this expansion we are more equipped to supply the demand of our product throughout the Atlantic Provinces and across the country.”

G.E. Silliker & Sons Ltd. is a family owned, Island-based company, and manufactures industrial and commercial storefront systems, which includes windows, entrances, glazing and hardware. They are now supplying storefront systems throughout Canada, including the entire Atlantic region and Alberta.
