Dec. 16, 2014 - Saint-Gobain has announced a deal to acquire a controlling interest in Sika while buying only 16 per cent of the company's shares from the majority shareholder, the Burkard family. Sika's board of directors and group management has threatened to resign if the deal clears anti-trust review.
Dec. 9, 2014 - C.R. Laurence has a architectural sales representative for its U.S. Aluminum business in southern Ontario. Andrew Kennedy joined the company on Dec. 1 and is covering a territory stretching from the Greater Toronto Area into southwestern Ontario. Kennedy comes to CRL after three years at Sika and 12 years at Trulite.
Dec. 5, 2014 - Glass Canada has discovered that unscrupulous telemarketers are attempting to sell accommodations and other services using the Top Glass name. At least one company in the Toronto-area glass industry has been contacted by an individual claiming to represent Top Glass "exhibitor services."

Nov. 7, 2014 - Today is the last day to register online for the Ontario Glass and Metal Association's Fall Seminar. Open to members and non-members alike, glazing contractors in Ontario will hear important information about the new OGMA/WSPS Safety Manual containing critical information to help avoid trouble with Ontario's new safety laws. Other seminar topics include "Positioning glass and aluminum curtain wall systems for the future," and "Ontarians with Disabilities Act and the glazing industry."

Robert McDonald, U.S. secretary of veterans affairs, Sally Jewell, secretary of the interior and actor and musician Gary Sinise will speak at the much-anticipated American Veterans Disabled for Life Memorial's historic dedicationin Washington, D.C. - an event more than 15 years in the making. Unlike other national memorials, the American Veterans Disabled for Life Memorial will pay tribute to disabled veterans both living and deceased across all conflicts throughout the nation’s history. The design of the Memorial, by the acclaimed firm Michael Vergason Landscape Architects, envisions a hallowed place amid the bustle of the surrounding Washington streets. Vergason’s design was meant expressly for its audience – disabled veterans, their loved ones, friends and caretakers – who will now have a place for commemoration and quiet reflection.
Sept. 29, 2014 - The Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) is changing as Canadians prepare to align with the Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labelling of Chemicals (GHS). To help educate workers about the upcoming changes, the Canadian Centre for Occupational Health and Safety (CCOHS) has released a new e-course, in partnership with the Workplace Hazardous Materials Bureau of Health Canada (formerly the National Office of WHMIS) and funded by Health Canada. It is offered free of charge to the first 100,000 participants, for up to one year, and is available in English and French.

Laurence's U.S. Aluminum Division is proud to announce the addition of Greg Wiebe, AHC (Architectural Hardware Consultant) to the company's Canada operations as Outside Sales Representative based out of Winnipeg, Manitoba. Sept. 17, 2014 - The Canadian Association of Women in Construction (CAWIC) launched its Women's Advancement Project in Calgary, Alberta today. CAWIC continues to call on the industry to join forces with CAWIC to address the shortage of skilled trades in Canada by promoting the advancement of women into leadership roles within the construction industry.
Sept. 15, 2014 - AGC has announced the re-branding of Comfort E-PS, bringing the high-demand pyrolytic glass into alignment with the two new product families of low-emissivity coated glass products launched early last year: Energy Select for architectural applications and Comfort Select for residential applications. 
Sept. 11, 2014 - Linetec will expand its capacity and capabilities with a third anodize line. The 120,000-square-foot addition and associated improvements are estimated to cost $15.3 million and to bring nearly 100 jobs to the city of Wausau, Wisconsin. In January 2014, Linetec opened a 30,000-square-foot addition to its existing anodize lines, which are operating at capacity.
