May 19, 2016 - Municipalities issued building permits worth $7.4 billion in February, up 15.5% from January. This growth followed a 9.5% decline the previous month and was largely the result of higher construction intentions for commercial buildings in Alberta, single-family dwellings in Ontario and institutional structures in Quebec.
May 5, 2016 - Tyman Plc has entered into an agreement to acquire the Giesse Group, which is composed of GSG International S.p.A and Giesse North American (GSNA). GSNA, a leading supplier of hardware systems for the aluminum Euro Groove window market, will be unified with AmesburyTruth.  The acquisition enables AmesburyTruth, a premier manufacturer of window and door components for residential and commercial applications, to broaden its commercial product portfolio and further penetrate the commercial market segment.
April 21, 2016 - PPG has announced, in connection with LKQ Corporation’s announcement of its definitive agreement to purchase Pittsburgh Glass Works (PGW), that it will divest its approximately 40 percent minority ownership interest in PGW. LKQ announced that it expects the transaction to close in the second quarter 2016, subject to customary closing conditions.

Mar. 10, 2016 - The total value of building permits issued by Canadian municipalities rose 11.3% to $6.9 billion in December, following a 19.9% decline the previous month. Higher construction intentions for multi-family dwellings in Quebec, Ontario, British Columbia and Alberta explained the advance.

Feb. 11, 2016 - Glass segment net sales were $265 million for the quarter, down $7 million, or 3 percent, year-over-year as higher sales volumes and improved selling prices were offset by unfavorable foreign currency translation and reduced sales stemming from the 2014 sale of a flat glass production facility.
Feb. 11, 2016 - C.R. Laurence has partnered with the Southern California Glass Management Association (SCGMA) and the Architectural Glass Institute (AGI) to provide a series of educational programs for glaziers that focus on Demountable Wall Division 10 business. The purpose of the partnership and corresponding programs is to give glaziers the knowledge and resources they need to take on these types of projects.
Jan. 12, 2016 - Edwin J. "Ed" Berkowitz, Chairman of the Board of JE Berkowitz, died on Friday January 8, 2016. The Glass Association of North America mourns the passing of Ed Berkowitz, a leader and veteran of the glass and glazing industry.

Dec. 17, 2015 - Bill Yanek has been named the Executive Director of the Canadian Glass Association (CGA) effective December 1, 2015. Bill is currently the Executive Vice President of the Glass Association of North America (GANA) and President of its subsidiary association management company, Centric Management. He will remain in those roles as he adds the CGA post.
Dec. 3, 2015 - On Wednesday, November 4, Vitrum Glass Group hosted its second biennial Glass Fabrication Meets Design at its head office and fabrication facility in Langley, B.C. This year’s sold out event was a huge success with a record attendance of over one hundred architects and spec writers with guests from Vancouver to San Francisco. 
Dec. 1, 2015 - The Ontario Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities has released the findings of a review of the Ontario College of Trades by former Secretary of Cabinet, Tony Dean. The report calls for the College to carry out internal reviews to eliminate areas of conflict and overlap with Red Seal and the Ontario Labour Relations Board and to look for opportunities to consolidate and/or eliminate some trade classifications. It also recommends parameters for re-evaluating whether trades should be compulsory or voluntary. The report also calls for a "policy-based" approach to enforcement, and recognizes the Ontario Labour Relations Board as the final abritrator on trade matters in the province when OCAT and OLRB policies collide.
Nov. 19, 2015 - Glass Canada magazine will launch its educational Winter Webinar series Dec. 14, 2pm EST with a presentation by Stephane Hoffman of Morrison Hershfield titled "Energy Code Implications for Spandrel Design: Quantifying and mitigating the effects of thermal bridging." Online registration for this free presentation is OPEN NOW. The webinar is the first in a series of three that will take place in December, January and February.
Nov. 18, 2015 - On October 6, Richard Aubertin succeeded to Michael Hardman as General Manager of Sika Canada. Consequently, Michael Hardman took on the challenge of Senior Vice President of Mergers & Acquisitions for Sika North America, a key role to strengthen Sika's market positions and competitive advantage on the North American continent.
