Imagic Glass in Concord, Ont., has announced Ennio Rea has joined the team as vice-president of sales. Rea, a well-known figure in the Ontario glass industry and recipient of the Ontario Glass and Metal Association’s Lifetime Achievement Award, will be responsible for leading Imagic’s sales efforts in the glazing communityand developing Imagic’s sales team. 
It’s impossible to name a bigger economic story in Canada right now than the tariff war that’s been started by U.S. president, Donald Trump. In mid-2018, he followed through on plans to charge Canadian firms tariffs of 25 per cent on steel and 10 per cent on aluminum that crosses the border.

The Building Envelope Conference returned to Caesars Palace in Las Vegas this past March with numbers not seen since before the Great Recession. Over 500 attendees converged on the three-day conference known as the industry’s premier building envelope event to make connections and discuss challenges and trends in the glass and glazing industry.

The federal government has announced retaliatory tariffs on imports from the U.S. of many steel and aluminum products, including "doors, windows and their frames and thresholds for doors." The tariffs are in response to American tarrifs announced in May on steel and aluminum entering the U.S. from Canada. The tariff on fenestration products will be 10 per cent.

Trade actions like the ones taken by the Trump administration this week are intended to inflict pain, and the steel and aluminum tariffs levied by the Trump administration are unwelcome developments for both industries in Canada.But the harm will fall disproportionately on producers of steel, rather than aluminum — and not only because the tariff on steel (25 per cent) is higher than the one on aluminum (10 per cent).
