The Canadian Window and Door Manufacturers Association (CWDMA) will host Win-door North America 2007 at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre (North Building) from November 13 to 15.

More than 150 exhibiting companies will participate at this highly focussed fenestration trade show which will
feature all the latest computer hardware, software, doors, door lites, hardware, machinery, sealants, weather seals, testing services, wood products and systems for the window and door industries. In addition to the domestic exhibitors, show organizers say they are expecting attendees from across Canada, the US and other countries as the show’s international presence has been growing throughout its 13 year history.

The venue will remain at the north side of the convention centre, due to its popularity among exhibitors after
making what was supposed to be a temporary shift to the new hall a couple of years ago.

The CWDMA will host Win-door North America 2007 at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre, from November 13 to 15.

The slogan on the Win-door promotional brochures reads – Maximize your sales opportunities! – an appropriate theme amidst the growing competition from off-shore glass companies, the ongoing acquisitions currently taking place and the predictions for a softening US economy.

CWDMA president, Henry Banman says it is these global economic and competitive pressures that make a show like Win-door even more valuable to manufacturers. “We all need to get better at manufacturing windows and to sell them profitably in this country before others come in and do it cheaper and better than us,” says Banman, adding that the learning and networking portion of the show is becoming even more important.

“This is the age of ‘green and lean’ manufacturing and the exhibitors have indicated to us that they are looking for more networking opportunities and the people who attend want to learn. We are trying harder to feature new systems and new products for manufacturers to keep up-to-date with the newest technologies.”

He adds that Win-door has gained a reputation for being a networking resource that leads into sales opportunities after the fact, and organizers are encouraging more exhibitors to engage in networking opportunities. “The show provides the basics for the beginning of a sale. People walk the show floor, they see what’s available and they make the appropriate contacts. That is where it starts. Then they follow-up with an appointment to go to the plant and see the bigger picture. For my own company, I know we have started many business initiatives during this show with upgrading our own plant machinery,” he says.

There will be a new twist to the CWDMA fall meeting and seminar program for 2007. On November 13, Dr. Elspeth Murray from the CIBC Teaching Fellow in Entrepreneurship, associate professor of Strategy and Entrepreneurship, director for Queen’s Centre for Business Venturing at Queens University School of Business in Kingston, Ontario, will present a seminar on the issues most relevant to small and medium-sized companies including Human Resources skills development, recruitment, attraction and retention, strategic planning, entrepreneurship and the challenges of growth. On November 14, Jeff Baker, Westlab, will address technical updates and other current issues and on November 15, Dr. Peter Andersen has been invited to deliver his now-famous Economic Forecast to be followed by the CWDMA 2007 Fall Meeting, including the reports from all CWDMA committee chairs.
