Keith Pynoo, past-president of the Canadian Glass Association, reports that the infamous ‘Battle of Alberta’ golf tournament between the Calgary based GAMA and the Edmonton based GTA glass associations took place without casualties this year.
“The tournament was held on August 11, 2006 at Alberta Springs Golf Course just outside of Red Deer, Alberta. The day started out fine but then the rain came down in buckets, forcing the tournament to finish at the 9th hole. In spite of the rain everyone had a good time. The Challenge Tournament had a first ever ‘longest drive’ for both men and women, won by Ms. Christine Jaynes who works as sales representative for Ryerson in Calgary. The match play was won again this year by GAMA. The attendees thank event sponsors along with Ron Kokotilo, Barry Wagg of the GTA and Jeff Vitale of GAMA, for organizing another fantastic golf tournament.” -end-

Michael Czernick, first vice-president of the Glass Trades of Northern Alberta (GTA), updates members with a provincial report:
“As part of the drive to entice existing and new members to continue attending monthly meetings, which regularly include timely and informative guest speakers, the GTA of Northern Alberta is rewarding its members with gifts. It was decided by the executive that every company who attended each monthly meeting would have their name inserted into a draw that would be made on the last meeting of the year. On June 20, 2006, the first draw was made and the winner was Century Glass which was awarded a gift certificate for the Fairmont Hotels.
“On Saturday June 10, 2006, 60 golf enthusiasts teed up for the annual Glass Trades of Northern Alberta golf tournament. Despite the rain from the previous week, the clouds parted on Saturday and everyone had a great day. The winning team won on a count back.

As always, these tournaments have a number of people organizing the event and Ron and Cathy Kokotilo of Bahry’s Glass were instrumental in having everything run smoothly. Our thanks go out to them.
