Nov. 4, 2009 – The P1 Channel Lifter, one of Powr-Grip's top selling below-the-hook vacuum lifters, is now offered with a new option: a power system to accommodate a compressed air power source. Built to excel in a manufacturing or fabrication shop environment, the P11104AIRS vacuum lifter employs a venturi-type vacuum pump that allows the lifter to attach three times faster than the standard AC or DC versions of the P1.

The company says this translates to quicker cycle times and greater productivity on the shop floor.

The P11104AIRS provides the versatility of manual 180° rotation and manual 90° tilt movements. Due to its venturi-based power system, the P11104AIRS is less susceptible to contamination from sources commonly found in manufacturing environments. It is also capable of operating at temperatures from 0° to 120° F [-18° to 49° C] and at elevations up to 10,000 feet [3048 metres], allowing for use in a broader range of workplace environments. In addition to its versatility, the venturi of the P11104AIRS has no moving parts to wear or require lubrication, thus offering an enhanced service life.

Designed for use with a crane or overhead hoisting system, the new air-powered P1 is slightly lighter than the DC-powered units, weighing in at just 57 lbs. [26 kg], as compared to the 70 lbs [32 kg] of the DC version. This lighter weight makes the P11104AIRS easier for the operator to manipulate and effectively extends the load capacity of the hoisting equipment.

A wide range of features is also standard on the P11104AIRS.

Wood’s Powr-Grip® has also introduced a new option for certain Powr-Grip high-flow, DC-powered vacuum lifters: The EO8RC3 Remote Control System allows operators to attach or release the load at distances up to 250 feet [76 metres]. This radio controlled system features a high-visibility strobe light, to alert the operator and all surrounding personnel when a load release is possible.

To assure workers are always confident of positive attachment to the load, a green lift light indicates acceptable vacuum level for lifting and a warning buzzer signals low vacuum. Since the radio remote control can release a load without hands-on operation of the vacuum lifter, it eliminates the need for scaffolding or a man-lift. The operator can control the functions of the vacuum lifter without having to relocate and assist in hands-on load placement.

This option is currently available on the following Powr-Grip vacuum lifters:

  • MRTA8-DCS Quadra-Tilt Rotator

  • MR1611LDCS Manual Rotator 2800

  • MTCL4-DCS Cladding Lifter
