R+T Stuttgart presents outlook on developments in external sun protection

June 24, 2014  By Carey Fredericks

urlJune 24, 2014 – The most important industry get-together for roller shutters, doors/gates and sun protection takes a look at current consumer trends. Integral systems and energy efficiency for external sun protection are very popular this summer

With the increasing temperatures and long hours of sunshine on warm summer days, the demand for external sun protection is growing among consumers and retailers. Whether it is roller shutters, Venetian blinds or awnings – there are many sun protection options. Highly integrated systems are playing a key role and are on the rise in all product categories. Ingo Legnini, deputy CEO of the sun protection supplier REFLEXA-WERKE Albrecht GmbH, is aware of the current developments on the market: "New contours, new functions, complete heat insulation and increasing automation are currently the driving forces", states the expert. Modern sun protection systems are diverse in use and can provide a lot more than just shade. The demand for large glass and window areas has increased for offices, private households and public buildings – and thus also the need for external sun protection. At the same time, energy efficiency is playing an increasingly important role. Automated systems, which can automatically adapt to the existing light conditions, are therefore on the rise in an effort to save energy for heat, artificial lighting or air-conditioning. Particularly in light of the constantly increasing energy costs, the demand for innovations in this area continues to be high.

Sustainable production and robust materials in demand

The topic of energy saving is decisive for external sun protection, also in relation to the materials used by the manufacturers. "We are observing a trend towards materials which contribute to energy efficiency, are low-maintenance and are produced sustainably", states Legnini. The stability is also another important aspect. "High-quality materials are necessary in order to be able to absorb the forces in higher wind classes." Awnings, in particular, are often exposed during storms and can be ripped from their fixture points. Automatic wind monitors and innovative technologies prevent damage and provide reliable sun protection also in windy regions. For example, the TwinTube technology from REFLEXA-WERKE Albrecht GmbH, with which the gusts can be blown between two fabric webs.

At the anniversary event of R+T Stuttgart, which opens its doors next year on 24 February, the industry leaders will once again present their latest developments over five days. The most innovative products in external sun protection have the chance to win the R+T innovation prize. The innovation prize will be awarded for the ninth time by Messe Stuttgart together with the Federal Association for Manufacturers of Roller Shutters and Sun Protection (BVRS), the National Federation of Door and Gate Manufacturers (BVT) and the Industrial Association for Technical Textiles, Roller Shutters and Sun Protection, in the categories roller shutters, awnings and Venetian blinds.
