Nov. 18, 2009, Calgary – Grant Metal Products celebrated the Grand Opening of its new head office and manufacturing plant on Oct. 22nd.  The event drew about 250 industry and government leaders who joined in celebrating the milestone in Grant Metal’s corporate history.  The complex is located just north of Calgary in a new business park development in Rocky View County.

Grant Metal manufactures metal products for the commercial glass, roofing, and other industries in Western Canada.  The company also operates a custom sign division.

The 55,000 sq. ft. plant incorporates state of the art manufacturing and operating systems.  John Reitmeier, President and General Manager observed, “The increased space and fully automated systems enable Grant to do precision bending and forming, high volume mass production, and quick-turnaround of large orders.”

Another benefit of the increased space is the capacity to warehouse large volumes of raw product.  The shipping bay is big enough to accommodate semi trailer units.  Finished products are protected from the elements during loading for transport.

Equipment includes the fully automated 2009 Flexible Manufacturing Cell along with a Prima Finn-Power Shear Genius 568, several press brakes including a 320 Ton X 14’ press brake, and a Pima Finn-lower 65 Ton X 8” E-bender along with other machines.

Grant Metal Products is the ultimate family success story.  The company was founded by Bill and Jean Grant in 1980.  The company quickly grew until 1999 when they moved into a new 14,400 sq. ft. manufacturing facility which was later expanded to 23,000 sq. ft.

Four family members hold senior management positions.  Others have “learned the ropes” while assuming various roles within the organization.  Several employees who have been with Grant for many years hold other management positions.

“We were able to overcome the normal challenges of family members working together,” noted founder Bill Grant.  “As we grew, we built a strong team that included several employees who have worked with our company since the very beginning.  It sounds like a cliché, but our people have really been the secret of our success.”

Metal products fabricated by Grant Metal is found in The EnCana Head Office Bow mega-complex, the new Cross Iron Mills mega-mall, the environmentally and technologically advanced City of Calgary Water Building, The Legislature Building in Yellowknife, Banker’s Hall, the Trans Canada Pipeline’s Head Office, The Calgary Airport Terminal, and many other commercial buildings in Western Canada.

The event was produced by UniMark Creative Services.  The communications and marketing agency works with numerous clients in the Commercial Construction industry.
