OGMA to host two-topic spring seminar

March 22, 2018  By OGMA

Mar. 22, 2018 – The Ontario Glass & Metal Association will hold its 2018 Two-Topic Spring Seminar on April 12 at the Richmond Hill Country Club in Richmond Hill, Ont.

This two-topic seminar will provide attendees with important and timely information on two industry-relevant subjects. The first part of the seminar will cover everything a glazier needs to know about fire-rated glass, framing systems, and doors. This session will include an overview of hollow-metal versus premium systems, fire-protective versus fire-resistive systems, and all the related glass options. The technology behind each will be considered, as well as pricing, pros and cons, code considerations, and more.

The second part of the seminar will include an update on Violence and Harassment in the Workplace, which will cover the purpose and benefits of an investigation, legal reporting requirements, the steps of an effective investigation, communication methods (questioning), documenting, and report writing. The session will equip attendees with the essential knowledge, skills, and tools to conduct investigations and prevent costly recurrences.

WHY YOU SHOULD BE THERE: Fire rated glazing is a poorly understood code requirement for practically every commercial project in municipalities throughout the Greater Toronto Area. All glazing contractors should be aware of the requirements and where they should be providing this specialty product. In addition, the investigation of violence and harassment incidents is a core activity within a healthy and safe workplace. It is also a requirement under the Occupational Health and Safety Act and the Ontario Human Rights Code. You will learn when harassment becomes discrimination and no longer falls under the Occupational Health and Safety Act but the Ontario Human Rights Code.
