IGMA Montreal Conference launches next week

The Insulating Glass Manufacturers Alliance will host its Summer Conference next week, July 31 to Aug. 1 at the Sheraton Centre Montreal. IGMA conferences represent one of the best opportunities in the industry to learn about the latest science and technology and coming updates to codes, standards and test methods for architectural glazing.

Bill Briese, GED Integrated Solutions

Bill holds a Bachelors of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from GMI Engineering & Management Institute (now Kettering University) in Flint, Michigan. He has been with GED for the past 20 years as the R&D and Engineering Manager. His responsibilities include innovation and new product development for processes, machinery and products relating to the IGU and window industry. Bill currently holds 18 US patents and several additional patents pending within the fenestration industry. He has been involved with IGMA for the past 10 years. Prior to GED, Bill worked for 10 years as a machine and tooling designer for high speed packaging equipment in the food & beverage industry.

Bill’s two daughters are both away studying to become future engineers, which is why he still needs a job. But in his spare time, he enjoys a multitude of outdoor activities with his family and also dabbles with old arcade game restorations.

1:00 pm Implementing Canada’s Pan-Canadian Framework on Clean Growth and Climate  Change: A Market Transformation Strategy for Residential Windows
Debbie Scharf, Director of Equipment Division (Office of Energy Efficiency), Natural Resources Canada

Debbie Scharf is the Director of the Equipment Division in the Office of Energy Efficiency at Natural Resources Canada. She is responsible for overseeing the Government of Canada’s energy efficiency standards development program, EnerGuide labeling program and the ENERGY STAR program as it pertains to equipment and appliances. She has 15 years of experience managing and leading regulatory and strategic initiatives within the Government of Canada. Prior to joining Natural Resources Canada in 2014, she worked with Environment Canada, where she was involved in various files, including the chemicals management program and the clean air agenda. She has also developed industrial regulations for greenhouse gas emissions and crafted strategies for managing the risks associated with chemicals substances.

She holds a Master degree in Environmental Management from Simon Fraser University and a Bachelor of Commerce from McGill University.
