Energy code implications for spandrel design: Quantifying and mitigating the effects of thermal bridging

January 20, 2016  By Glass Canada

Presented by: Stephane Hoffman, Morrison Hershfield

This presentation will outline the energy code implications for spandrel panel design. Learn the impact of the latest thermal performance requirements for opaque wall assemblies on traditional spandrel panel construction.

Examples of 3D thermal modeling from the recently published British Columbia Hydro Building Envelope Thermal Bridging Guide will be use to demonstrate the performance of traditional approaches to curtain wall and window wall spandrel assemblies and contrast them with other opaque wall assemblies.  The potential impact of new technologies will be discussed and their impact in terms of 3D thermal performance will be presented. Implications for the industry of increasing trends towards measured performance will be discussed.
