Oct. 24, 2017 – Glass industry legend Doug Hotham passed away on Oct. 18 at the age of 90. Hotham’s remarkable 50-year career included roles with several of Canada’s most noted glass fabricators and contractors. He was given the Ontario Glass and Metal Association’s Lifetime Achievement Award in 2014.

Official obituary follows:
Having just turned 90 a month earlier Doug passed away peacefully after a brave battle with cancer on Wednesday, October 18, 2017. He is survived by his wife Norma, sons Brent (Kate) and Greg (Janine) Toronto Maple Leaf Alumni. Doug loved his surviving grandchildren Shannon (Gustavo), Scott (Kyla), Andrew (Ashley) and also Janis (Alex) and Christine (Steve). He adored his great granddaughter Violet. Doug also left behind his brother Ray (and the late Joan and their children) and was predeceased by another brother George. Other relatives (the Stewart family, the Slann family) from London, ON where he grew up will also mourn his loss. Doug was a very proud and long-time member of the Rising Sun Masonic Lodge # 129 in Aurora, ON where he made so many friends and was always counted upon to mentor new prospective members. In 1999-2000 Doug served the lodge as the DDGM for his district and was very highly regarded in this capacity. He never said no to any of his brethren when asked to speak or to arrange an event at the lodge; he just couldn’t say no. He will be dearly missed by his brethren at the masonic lodge.
Doug loved to cook and the number of cookbooks and recipes he accumulated is testament to his love of cooking. Growing up Doug was an avid athlete and excelled at many sports in London like hockey, baseball, body building but especially golf. He loved golf and played until his later years.
Doug’s professional career was in the commercial architectural glass industry although he started out sweeping the floors at his uncle’s small glass and window shop in London. He made many lifelong friends in the commercial glass industry on a worldwide basis. A couple of years ago he was honoured by the OGMA (Ontario Glass Metal Association) with their lifetime achievement award.
