Daimler AG is using Research Frontiers’ SPD-Smart
light-control technology in its latest innovation: the magic sky control

Feb. 14, 2011 – Daimler AG is using Research Frontiers’ SPD-Smart light-control technology in its latest innovation: the magic sky control panoramic glass roof, which will appear in the newly designed Mercedes SLK, available this summer. This is highly relevant to aircraft cabin interiors.
Having done rigorous durability and performance tests in some of the most extreme conditions on earth, Mercedes is the first to include a “smart window” technology in a mass-market automobile, enabling drivers and passengers to change the tint of their car roof, from dark to clear, instantly at the press of a button.
SPD-Smart technology is also being used in aerospace. Having passed FAA testing, Research Frontiers licensee InspecTech Aero Service’s iShade brand of SPD-Smart aircraft windows have already been installed on 25 different aircraft models including Airbus, Hawker Beechcraft, Gulfstream and Sikorsky models. SPD-Smart dimmable aircraft cabin windows are the first and the only instantly dimmable window system flying today. They are also the only dimmable windows offering 100% privacy.
