Event reports
The Ontario Glass and Metal Association held its spring golf tournament May 26 at Piper's Heath in Milton, Ont. The weather did its best to interrupt the day, but golfers got in most of a round under sunny skies following a delay while a thunderstorm passed through. Kudos to the grounds crew at Piper's Heath – the course remained in good condition and well-drained despite two hours of heavy rain. The tournament hosted 114 golfers with about 20 more people joining the event for dinner.

Werner Wagner of Sika will discuss the development of a composite product comprising a glass panel, a silicone adhesive layer and a load-transferring metal panel that allows the use of glass in overhead as well as vertical situations without any visible mechanical fixings, creating a large uniform opaque glass surface.
Over the past few decades the use of glass and glazing on high-rise buildings has increased dramatically. More recently, as a result of increased industry recognition of the importance of energy efficiency, the trend is towards more energy efficient glazing systems. Common methods of improving thermal performance of insulating glass units (IGU) includes the application of high performance coatings, use of triple glazing or warm edge spacer technology, and installing solar selective films on or inside the units.
Using photos and examples from real-world window-wall failures, George Torok will draw on Morrison Hershfield’s experience across North America dealing with building designers, developers, builders and other vested-interest groups to discuss ways to prevent and address problems with window-wall construction.
Vacuum Insulating Glass (VIG) is not a new concept and has its roots at the beginning of the 20th century. The general objective of VIG designs, much like conventional non-evacuated insulating glass technology, is to improve the overall insulating properties between an external environment and an internal environment by slowing the rate of thermal energy transfer across two or more lites of glass.
