Werner Wagner of Sika will discuss the development of a composite product comprising a glass panel, a silicone adhesive layer and a load-transferring metal panel that allows the use of glass in overhead as well as vertical situations without any visible mechanical fixings, creating a large uniform opaque glass surface.
Over the past few decades the use of glass and glazing on high-rise buildings has increased dramatically. More recently, as a result of increased industry recognition of the importance of energy efficiency, the trend is towards more energy efficient glazing systems. Common methods of improving thermal performance of insulating glass units (IGU) includes the application of high performance coatings, use of triple glazing or warm edge spacer technology, and installing solar selective films on or inside the units.
Using photos and examples from real-world window-wall failures, George Torok will draw on Morrison Hershfield’s experience across North America dealing with building designers, developers, builders and other vested-interest groups to discuss ways to prevent and address problems with window-wall construction.
Vacuum Insulating Glass (VIG) is not a new concept and has its roots at the beginning of the 20th century. The general objective of VIG designs, much like conventional non-evacuated insulating glass technology, is to improve the overall insulating properties between an external environment and an internal environment by slowing the rate of thermal energy transfer across two or more lites of glass.

Feb. 25, 2016 - The IGMA (the Insulating Glass Manufacturer’s Alliance) announced today a new event for the industry focusing on IG fabrication. Called the IG Fabricator Workshop, IGMA's newest event will take place March 22-24th in Plano, Texas at the Intertek Testing Facilities and will offer a blend of classroom and hands-on training.
Feb. 25, 2016 - GlassCon Global will boast over twenty hours of robust programming designed to provide a variety of usable content relevant to all facets of the design and construction industry. The scientific committee has been reviewing technical papers submitted by architectural glass and glazing experts from around the world.
Feb. 25, 2016 - GPD in connection with the Glass Expo Istanbul repeats its success formula from 2015 by hosting a special seminar dedicated to the advanced design, energy efficiency and quality of glazing solutions. The event is organized on March 10th 2016 by GPD and the Glass Innovation Institute under the sponsorship of the speaker companies and REED TUYAP Fairs.
Feb. 25, 2016 - With almost two months to go before Top Glass kicks off – April 20 at the International Centre in Mississauga, Ont. – the initial allotment of exhibit space on the show floor has been entirely sold out. Show organizers are now working with the International Centre to add more floor area to accommodate continuing demand at Canada's trade event for the commercial glazing industry.

Jan. 26, 2016 - Viracon will sponsor the Welcome Reception at the GANA BEC 2016 Conference to be held Feb. 21-23 in Las Vegas. The BEC Conference will feature motivational speaker, Johnny Bench, former MLB catcher for the Cincinnati Reds and Hall of Fame inductee. The event will also showcase industry experts such as Serge Martin, Vice President of Marketing, AGC, who will provide an update on the state of the glazing industry. Kai-Uwe Bergmann, a partner at BIG, an architectural firm will also share his industry insights on innovation at the BEC Conference.
Jan. 26, 2016 - The Transatlantic Debate, one of the inaugural event's most talked-about panels, is returning for GlassCon Global 2016! Moderated by Nick Beaumont (editor of Intelligent Glass Solutions), the Transatlantic Debate features a panel of industry experts that share insights, expertise and trends in the architectural glass and glazing industry. Two of the key topics covered will be the global glazing market and North America's place in it.
Dec. 4, 2015 - Online registration is now available for the Glass Association of North America's Building Envelope Conference, happening Feb. 21 - 23 in Las Vegas. This year's event will focus on education, networking, business growth and other opportunities within the industry and how they affect those in the contract glazing industry.
