Sept. 20, 2018 - The American Architectural Manufacturers Association (AAMA) and the Insulating Glass Manufacturers Alliance (IGMA) jointly released a series of web pages providing a general overview of the standards, specifications and test methods used in the window, door and skylight industry related to glass and glazing systems. A Consumer's Guide to Understanding Glass Standards Used in Windows, Doors and Skylights is now available as a complimentary resource on AAMA's and IGMA's websites for the industry to share with consumers.
Glass Canada sat down with Nathalie Thibault of Prelco, Insulating Glass Manufacters Alliance president, at the recent Summer Conference in Vancouver for a quick talk about the conference and the future direction of the association.
The Insulating Glass Manufacturers Alliance held its Summer Conference on July 31 through August 2 in Vancouver. The event attracted over 100 insulating glass fabricators for three days of informative presentations and discussion.
The upcoming IGMA Summer Conference will feature a morning breakfast session for members to discuss the future of the organization with the board of directors. IGMA recently announced its intent to merge with AAMA in the next two years, and this session will give members an opportunity to discuss what that means, the benefits and pitfalls of such a merge, and more. Attendees are encouraged to bring their questions and thoughts about the future for this session.
June 6, 2018 - The boards of directors for the American Architectural Manufacturers Association (AAMA) and the Insulating Glass Manufacturers Alliance (IGMA) have engaged in formal discussions with the hope of creating a new unified organization that can better serve the North American fenestration industry.
The Ontario Glass and Metal Association presented its Lifetime Achievement award to Tony Menecola, president of Applewood Glass and Mirror, at its spring golf tournament on May 31 in Milton, Ont. Menecola is president of the Architectural Glass and Metal Contractors Association and the award was presented by that organization's executive director, and long-time friend of Menecola, Noel Marsella.
The glass and contract glazing industry in Canada is a sizeable entity employing thousands and one would expect it to have a voice that represents our collective interests on a national basis. In the United States, the National Glass Association recently merged with the Glass Association of North America to create a formidable national presence. I hate to tell you that Canada’s national voice is today on life support.

Mar. 8, 2018 - Dean Lewis of the American Architectural Manufacturers Association (AAMA) passed away March 7 after battling cancer. He spent 45 years in the fenestration industry and was 69 years old.
Feb. 21, 2018 -  Janice Yglesias has been promoted to be the American Architectural Manufacturers Association's (AAMA) executive vice president, as approved by the association's board of directors. Yglesias previously served as association services director before taking on this new position.
The Ontario Glass and Metal Association has announced that nominations are now being received for the 2018 Awards for Excellence. There are two awards, one for Excellence in Architectural Glass and Metal Design and one for Excellence in Architectural Glass and Metal Execution.
As we start a new year, the CGA board has decided it is time for a new mission and focus for the association. We are determined to deliver value for our members and do what we can as a national association to help the architectural glass industry across the country.
