Canadian manufacturer expands
Advanced Glazings in Sidney, Nova Scotia, will expand its manufacturing facility and create 50 jobs this year and up to 320 jobs for the next five years.

The innovative, award winning company distributes energy efficient products across North America such as Solera, a line of translucent, insulated glass units that improve the quality and energy efficiency of interior spaces by drawing daylight further into a room.

The expansion of the manufacturing facility includes an in-house glass cutting centre, which will provide cost and delivery benefits and a new production line for the Solera product.

One step closer to harmonization
The Insulating Glass and Manufacturers Alliance (IGMA) and the Insulating Glass Certification Council (IGCC) moved one step closer to streamlining and standardizing the certification program for the insulating glass industry in North American.

Both the IGMA and IGCC Certification Programs have developed and implemented a Gas Content Initial
and After Weathering (GCIA). The guidelines for certification of triple glazed units and test specimens were standardized between the two programs and IGCC adopted the IGMA Insulating Glass Manufacturing Quality Procedures (TM-4000-02) as the minimum requirement for the program’s quality assurance program. The quality procedures requirement will be phased in later.

Margaret Webb, IGMA’s executive director, says each group has adopted the requirements from the two programs which clearly represent the best approach to providing the construction industry with the assurance that the IG units they specify are certified to these programs.

The IG certification harmonization effort between IGMA and IGCC allows each organization to review its best practices, adopt guidelines and requirements which make sense for the markets served, yet still allow each organization to maintain its identity and oversight of their respective programs. Both programs will benefit as they add value to both IG fabricators and specifiers.

The All Weather Windows (AWW) executive team presents to representatives
from Habitat For Humanity (HFH) Canada three model trucks to symbolize
the three trailers of windows being donated to ReStores in Ottawa,
Midland and Brantford, Ontario. HFH reciprocated by presenting a plaque
with a hammer to AWW in recognition of the donation. Front row, left to
right: Lisa Lalande, Donna Hicks, Linda Moyer, Tina Goodwin and Myrna
Beattie from HFH, Bill Scott, Roger Hutlet and Gord Wiebe from AWW.
Back row, left to right: Robert Miller (HFH), Henry Banman and Richard
Scott (AWW), Scot Lowes (HFH) and Robert Gilles (AWW).

More than simple compatibility, embedding the two systems means users do not have to toggle between
separate applications or import/export data. Instead they are able to seamlessly access and use GlasPacLX files and data from within the familiar Microsoft Office interface. The result is one-step, streamlined access across key business and data management tools for greater productivity, flexibility and ability to grow a business.

Window donation
All Weather Windows, one of Canada’s largest privately held window and door companies, has donated windows at a value of $535,000 to Habitat For Humanity (HFH) Canada. The donated product will go to HFH ReStores in Ottawa, Midland and Brantford, Ontario. Habitat For Humanity Canada is a national, non-profit, faith-based organization with a mission to mobilize volunteers and community partners in building affordable housing and promoting home ownership as a means to breaking the cycle of poverty.

Habitat ReStores are retail environments that accept donations of new and quality used building supplies, which are resold to the public. The revenue generated from ReStores goes to support the home building work of Habitat For Humanity in local communities across the country.

The donation forms part of the grand opening celebration of All Weather Windows’ Mississauga, Ontario plant, which has added 100,000 square feet to the company’s existing manufacturing capacity. The company says this significant donation from All Weather Windows will generate funds to build more homes and help more families.
