C.R. Laurence has introduced the fourth in a series of six Master Catalogs, the ‘CRL23’ Frameless Shower Door and Mirror Hardware.

The company says it has expanded its product lines to the point where one all-inclusive catalog, such as the Big Red, is too cumbersome to handle. The ‘CRL23’ Catalog is the fourth in a series of six new, hard cover, Master Catalog publications, comprising a product line of more than 30,000 products. It can be used as a stand-alone or in conjunction with the company’s web-based services at crlaurence.com

The ‘CRL23’ is a 432 page, full colour, hard cover catalog, featuring frameless shower door hardware products, many of which are manufactured by CRL. Included are 25 styles of frameless shower door hinges for 6mm (1⁄4in) to 12mm (1⁄2in) thick glass, in more than 20 stock finishes and many custom finishes. Also included are CRL Frameless Sliding Shower Door Kits, mirror frames, channel and accessories, pull handles, towel and grab bars, knobs, clamps, headers and U-channels, silicone and installation tools.

Azon gets double recognition
Azon USA was the recent recipient of two industry awards for service in the fenestration industry: the American Architectural Manufacturers Association (AAMA) 2006 Chairman’s Award and the honour of Azon president and CEO, David Mills, being named as the Aluminum Extruders Council (AEC) 2006 Volunteer of the Year.

Azon was named AAMA’s 2006 Chairman’s Award winner during AAMA’s 70th Annual Meeting held in February. The prestigious recognition is presented by the out-going chairman of the board to a single company that has demonstrated ‘outstanding commitment and dedicated support of the association and the industry’ during the chairman’s two year term. Vice-president of sales and marketing, Jerry Schwabauer was on-hand to accept the award on behalf of Azon.

From its global headquarters in Kalamazoo, Michigan, Azon has been an AAMA member since 1980, serving as organization event sponsors and newsletter contributors for the Aluminum Materials Council. When the AAMA TIR-A8-90 – Structural Performance of Composite Thermal Barrier Framing Systems – standards were created in 1990, Azon was a part of the development team and the company was later re-involved in the standards’ revision in 2004. Additionally, Azon was one of eight AAMA members chosen to represent AAMA on the Joint Code Council with representatives from the Window and Door Manufacturers Association.

A little more than a month later, Azon was recognized again when Mills was honoured as the AEC 2006 Volunteer of the Year during the Aluminum Extruders Council (AEC) 2007 Annual Meeting and Leadership Conference in March.

Arch acquires Trulite in Ontario
Arch Aluminum & Glass has acquired Trulite Industries. Based in Mississauga, Ontario, Trulite is one of Canada’s largest glass fabricators specializing in large scale project work featuring insulated, tempered, spandrel and screen printed glass. The company is also a large distributor of all flat glass products.

The acquisition continues Arch’s geographic growth and is the company’s first facility in Canada. Trulite also has a US presence that is expected to grow as it is integrated into the Arch family. The company is well-known for its quality and service levels and has supplied material on several high profile jobs, including the airport expansion project at Toronto’s airport and Casino Niagara.

“We are excited about Trulite joining the family, its culture is in synergy with ours and its reputation in the industry is top notch. In addition, this acquisition allows Arch into new areas and offers opportunity to get supply from a ‘true single source’,” says Arch president and CEO, Leon Silverstein.

“The resources that Arch brings will surely benefit us and ensure that we will always be on the cutting edge of the industry,” says Gerry Duffy, president of Trulite, adding that he and his management team will all remain in place. Trulite CEO and one of the original founders, Peter Alexander, will also stay on in a consulting role.

“We are pleased that Peter and Gerry, along with the rest of the Trulite staff, will still be involved and we are
confident that our backgrounds and philosophies are similar enough to ensure that everything will continue to run smoothly,” says Silverstein.

Glaston acquires Albat + Wirsam
Glaston has conditionally agreed to acquire 100 percent of the shares in Albat + Wirsam Software AG. The purchase price for the entire share capital of the parent company and its main subsidiaries is 21 million euros (US$28.3 million). The closing of the transaction was expected to take place in July.

“This acquisition is in line with our strategy and strengthens Glaston’s market leadership and One-Stop-Partner service concept. With this acquisition, we gain a significant position in production management software for glass processing. Production management software solutions are increasingly requested by customers, as software is the glue that ties all the production machinery together in an efficient way,” says Glaston’s president and CEO, Mika Seitovirta.

“As an optimization innovator and developer, I am excited about this opportunity and what we can offer to our clientele now and in the future. With the combined expertise, we are better positioned to enlarge our software solutions portfolio to cover new areas in glass production with a view to enhance production efficiency of our customers,” says Dr Bernd Wirsam, chairman of the supervisory board.

On display will be the fully automated shape-capable first’flexspacer line (2.3m by 2.5m) which is targeted toward commercial IG manufacturers that use Super Spacer in IG unit production. Components of this system include a three brush pair washer with electronic speed control, an automatic ESA application robot with grid marking device, a tandem gas fill with an assembly press with both krypton and argon filling capability, and a hot melt sealing robot with corner wiping tool.

Also on display will be the smart’cutSD residential glass cutting machine. This system includes an
automated ‘free fall’ and positioning table, shape cutting machine and breakout table. Key features of the system include template digitizing, shape cutting and deletion, and breakout display.

Appointments
C.R. Laurence has promoted DJ Friese to the position of executive vice-president where he will work closely with Donald E. Friese, CEO, and Lloyd Talbert, president, in developing future strategies and providing leadership for the company.

He will also be responsible for managing and directing the technical sales division, which consists of five distinct business groups that include commercial hardware, architectural hardware, shower hardware, transaction/hospitality hardware and key accounts. These are the fastest growing areas of the company.

Kawneer has appointed Chris Lambert as its architectural sales representative for British Columbia. In addition to being a British Columbia Institute of Technology (BCIT) Operations Management graduate, Lambert is a certified glazier and brings more than 15 years of experience, both in the field and as a sales representative for commercial, institutional and high-rise glazing projects in the province. -end
