C.R. Laurence Aluminum products utilized in shopping centre renovation

Owned by Simon Property Group, Del Amo Fashion Center is one of the largest shopping malls in the United States at 2.3 million square feet. Under the supervision of general contractor Whiting-Turner, the mall underwent a multi-million dollar renovation that was completed in October of 2015. The project consisted of an extensive remodeling of the mall’s north end, now dubbed the Fashion Wing. As part of the renovation, CRL–U.S. Aluminum supplied new railing and storefront systems to augment the Fashion Wing’s performance attributes, safety features, and aesthetics.

Conceptualized by lead architectural firm 5+design, the new Fashion Wing incorporates GRS TAPER-LOC Glass Railing from CRL. The glass railing system was installed by ISEC, and lines the entire interior perimeter to create a safer and more secure shopping experience for visitors. The application features a custom bent base shoe designed to accommodate the curved glass used to produce flowing visuals and brilliant transparency. The railing system is also used inside the anchor Nordstrom store, and was installed by Giroux Glass. The dry-glazed GRS System for monolithic tempered glass is the only ICC-ES approved glass railing system in the market.

The Fashion Wing consists of high-end retail establishments including Kate Spade, Hugo Boss, Guess, Michael Kors, and Victoria’s Secret. Because Del Amo Fashion Center is one of the busiest shopping centers in the nation, the retail stores required storefront systems that would perform well under constant use, while delivering modern, all-glass aesthetics. Many utilize the DRS Door Rail System from CRL as a solution.

The DRS Door Rail System delivers a slim, streamlined profile and features patented Wedge-Lock™ dry glaze technology that securely holds glass panels in place. In addition, it allows for quick and easy glass adjustments on the field for added versatility. Various storefronts are also equipped with CRL Door Patch Fittings and Ladder Pulls. The H&M and Swarovski storefronts are outfitted with the CRL SPS Stacking Partition System. Together with the DRS Door Rail System, they present large openings with no obstructions, creating an all-glass setting that places the merchandise on center stage.

“Our systems are engineered and tested to perform under heavy traffic so they were a perfect fit for the Del Amo Fashion Center renovation,” said Chris Hanstad, Vice President of Architectural Hardware at CRL. “Designers wanted to create a vibrant, open-air concept with contemporary appeal. We were happy to provide glazing solutions that helped achieve this goal.”
