Fenestration moulding from Colonial Craft
Written by Quanex Building Products
Colonial Craft by Homeshield, a Quanex Building Products company, combines high-quality materials with precision craftsmanship to offer customers a broad range of wood molding products specifically designed for the fenestration market. Available in 25 different wood species and more than 300 profiles, Colonial Craft molding products provide OEM partners with a wide range of options to create specific aesthetic and functional designs for new construction and renovation projects. Homeshield’s capabilities include manufacturing high-end interior moldings and extension jambs, as well as casing, grilles, sash, rails, check rails and stiles for wood windows.

“The diversity of our wood species is unmatched in the industry, making us a valuable partner to customers that are looking to bring new and different products to market,” said Jeff Smith, general manager, Colonial Craft by Homeshield. “Plus, with more than 45 years experience servicing the fenestration industry, we are continuously using our knowledge to uncover unique solutions.  For example, we can apply our engineered wood flooring production capabilities to create frame sawn veneer that is thicker and more durable than typical peeled veneer.”

Colonial Craft’s ready-to-install extension jambs are available in several species and substrates, including solid, linear-wrapped, and painted. All Colonial Craft moldings utilize proprietary SmoothWood Technology to give manufacturers high-quality, ready-to-finish surfaces, helping them save time and money by reducing prep work and resulting in fewer remakes. The SmoothWood Technology softens knife marks, reduces shine lines, opens the wood grain for excellent depth and definition and provides a uniform appearance for staining, clear coat or painting.

With a strong commitment to sustainability, Colonial Craft by Homeshield was the first hardwood millwork manufacturer in the United States to have achieved SmartWood certification in 1994 from the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC). This ensures that all Colonial Craft products promoted as FSC-certified are produced from wood harvested from FSC-certified forests. In addition to involvement with FSC certification, Homeshield Colonial Craft strives to constantly reduce its overall environmental impact by reducing, reusing and recycling consumable items during the manufacturing process.
