Daylighting options expand in hurricane regions
Oct. 27, 2009, Wash. – For daylighting designs in hurricane regions, Technical Glass Products (TGP) introduces Pilkington Profilit™ Hurricane, the only tested and approved hurricane impact channel glass system in North America. Approved by Miami-Dade County and the state of Florida, Pilkington Profilit Hurricane provides protection for buildings against high winds and wind-borne debris, while allowing for the natural passage of light.

Pilkington Profilit Hurricane is approved for 60 PSF design loads in channel glass lengths up to 10 feet. The system consists of dual glaze, vertically oriented, self-supporting, "U-shaped" cast glass channels with a polycarbonate laminate, and a thermally broken perimeter frame. The end result is a glazed wall that obscures vision, allows light to pass through and stands strong against high wind loads.

The channel glass is available in numerous colors, coatings and patterns - including textured and non-textured surfaces - to balance the admission of natural light with privacy.
