Canadian economy less dependant on U.S.: TD Economics
Feb. 3, 2012 - The Canadian economy appears to be on a long-term trend toward less dependence on the United States, according to a new study issued Wednesday by TD Economics. The study found that Canada's economic reliance on the U.S. in terms of share of exports and GDP has dropped steadily over the last decade.
Eastman buys Solutia
Feb. 2, 2012 - Eastman Chemical Company and Solutia have announced an agreement under which Eastman will acquire Solutia, a global leader in performance materials and specialty chemicals for approximately $4.7 billion, including the assumption of Solutia’s debt.
ALI releases updated A14.7 standard for mobile ladders
Jan. 27, 2012 – The American Ladder Institute, the national trade association representing the North American ladder industry, has released the updated A14.7 standard, which provides technical specifications for mobile ladder stands and mobile ladder stand platforms. The standard prescribes rules for mobile ladders, also referred to as rolling ladders, which are primarily used in the workplace and are generally purchased to perform a specific task.
CSC to present economic forecaster Alex Carrick

Quanex hires Gnos as business development manager
Jan. 24, 2012 - Quanex Building Products, a company specializing in components and systems that produce innovative and energy-efficient window and door products, announced that Reed P. Gnos will be joining the team as a business development manager. In his new role, Reed Gnos will be responsible for sales and product/business development for the specialty components market (non-fenestration accounts) in North America. This role will include expanding and diversifying Quanex’s core competencies into new markets and adding new customers throughout North America.
Dollar drops, commodity prices retreat
Jan. 23, 2012 - The Canadian dollar closed lower as data showed a sharp drop in inflation during December while prices for oil and metals backed off. The loonie was down 0.17 of a cent to 98.7 cents U.S. after inflation fell 0.6 per cent from November to an annualized rate of just 2.3 per cent.
Improving U.S. economy starting to help exporters
Jan. 17, 2012 - Improving economic conditions south of the border helped Canada return to a robust trade surplus in November, as exports in the auto and energy sectors rebounded strongly from the previous month. Canada's $1.1-billion trade surplus in November - twice as big as expected - contrasted with October's upwardly revised $487-million deficit. |
