June 19, 2015  By WDMA

The Window and Door Manufacturers Association (WDMA) has released the WDMA 2015 Architectural Door U.S. Market Study. This report provides data and insights needed to understand the industry’s performance, key trends, and future direction. The report is based on extensive industry input for product shipments in 2014 and was prepared, researched and analyzed by Metrostudy, a Hanley Wood company, and the Virginia Tech Center for Housing Research (CHR).

This report delivers timely information on non-residential interior architectural flush door and stile and rail door market trends and product relationships, historic data for 2012 and 2013, and forecast data for 2015 through 2017. Forecasts are based on projections of construction activity as of May 2014.

Among nonresidential interior doors, wood remained the dominant material in 2014, with 4.1 million units produced. Steel was the second most common material, with three million units, and aluminum followed at 2.4 million units. The 2014 volume for wood doors marked a new eight-year peak, and is expected to continue increasing steadily over the next three years to a new forecasted high of 8.37 million units in 2017, which will also keep these the most popular material for nonresidential interior doors.
